Letters to the Editor

By Nancy Schramm

I know some some bonsai traditionalists will be horrified by the bonsai/art sculptures of Patrick Bergsma. But take a step back and let yourself be simply fascinated by his creativity.

Bergsma doesn’t pretend that these are real bonsai, in fact, his art is the definition of re-purposing since he uses broken porcelain and dead bonsai. He combines the two ancient art forms into something new and startling. Every time I look at them, I see something different. For instance, several of the trees sport flowers that mirror those illustrated on the porcelain.

Relax and take a look. Let me know what you think about them!🌳
