President’s Message

I’m hoping that everyone’s Christmas and holiday season was filled with family joy, and the spirit that all is well fills you as we move into another bonsai club year. Our Christmas party this year was enhanced by some great food from all who attended, along with a generous selection of bonsai trees and materials which made for an exciting club auction.

A big thanks goes out to everyone who supported the auction by donating items. The funds generated will help keep our club moving throughout the coming year on a sound financial basis. My biggest joy comes from seeing new club members have the opportunity to acquire some great bonsai material for their collection, trees that will give them something to work on for the coming year. And yes, you have every reason to be excited about our club’s programing for the coming 2023 year!

A New Year starts with Our January Tree Improvement Program

Everyone who has bonsai trees will at some point need suggestions or ideas for their future development, advice that can point out a new direction for trees that have stumped us.  And yes, our Tree Improvement Program will come to your rescue, with club members who have years of experience who can help you take your trees to the next level.

Gerry Fields will be in charge of this progam on our first Thursday meeting in January.  Everyone in the club is encouraged to bring in trees needing advice and recommendations. In addition, everyone in the club is welcome to offer suggestions to others to help overcome sticky problems.

This program is most successful when a variety of trees with a variety of problems are brought in, examined and various solutions are discussed.  So review your collection of trees, and pull out those that need further help and bring them to our January meeting. This will be a bonsai education class for everyone in the club who is there to listen and learn from the various suggestions given for their trees.  A limit of two trees per-person is suggested.

Our Third Thursday meeting will be our usual member workshop program.

February’s Repotting Program!

It's that time of year, repotting is on the menu for us bonsai enthusiasts, and Midori is willing to support you with that operation. For our first Thursday meeting, if you have trees that need repotting and would like help with the whole process, bring your trees in and learn the correct methods for a successful undertaking. We will have a couple of repotting stations available for that operation, but you will need to supply some of the necessary materials.

More details regarding the complete program will be covered in the February newsletter.

Have a great time doing bonsai in January everyone! 🌳
