President’s Message
By the time most club members read this newsletter, our show will have been completed. And hopefully, everyone had a great time sharing the day together along with our friends and guests. I know that such shows are a great deal of work and commitment of time, but don't we all feel proud and relieved that we all did it tenaciously together? I know I do!
I want to thank everyone who took part in our show. Your dedication is appreciated! With one more show under our belt, we can look forward to next year, knowing that we can be better prepared for the many opportunities we have to show and display our trees. There’s so many club members I need to thank, and hopefully I'll be able to do that in person at our next first Thursday meeting.
Fall is in the air, our yearly show is over, and now we can all relax and look forward to our biweekly meetings and the Golden State Bonsai Federation Rendezvous October 7th and 8th. This is a two-day event you don't want to miss, there will be much to see and from which to get ideas. Plus, it’s one-stop shopping for everything bonsai related. Now is a good time to take a personal inventory of what you'll need bonsai wise for the coming months ahead. You can find all the details regarding the GSBF Rendezvous in this month’s newsletter.
And Now, On With Our Monthly Programs
For our first Thursday meeting in October, Steve Iwaki, a Bay Area bonsai practitioner will be sharing his bonsai talents with us. Steve has chosen to work on a smaller Juniperus procumbens ‘Nana’, a tree that I purchased this past year. It has overgrown foliage and a nice size trunk and dead wood features on which to work. Steve is a joy to watch create bonsai, and has many ways to bring out the best in the trees he takes on.
Steve is the President of Sei Boku Bonsai Kai, up in the San Mateo area, and has been a major contributor to his club, displaying his wonderful trees at their yearly shows. I hope that everyone will be present for our meeting the evening of October 6th.
We'll have a short discussion regarding what everyone thought about how our show came off, and any suggestions for future ideas we need to consider prior to starting Steve Iwaki's demonstration. Our third Thursday meeting will be our regular workshop, if you need help with your trees, bring them with you and you’ll find the assistance and advice you need.
For the first meeting in November, Bonsai Mike Pistello will be joining us!
Have a great month doing bonsai everyone! 🌳
