Lake Merritt survey and Fundraising Flyer

By Dodie Newman (GSBF Treasurer)

Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt, one of the three GSBF sponsored bonsai gardens, has launched a major fundraising drive for a new security system following the recent theft of 8 bonsai trees. Please see the attached flyer for details.

Also BGLM volunteers are busy creating a 25th Anniversary book highlighting the history of the garden. In order to determine the quantity and type of book to be printed, it is hoped that each person will take a quick 2 minute survey.

Juan Cruz—Learning to Cut Back New Foliage

Thursday, April 4, 2024, 7:30pm
Midori Bonsai Club

Juan Cruz will be leading this program, helping those who have purchased new trees in the beginners class to start cutting back and working with the existing foliage their trees currently have. Learning to develop branches and foliage on various types of trees is a learned art and it takes time and patience to visualize how a proper branch is developed and shaped over time. Juan will give everyone a hands-on demonstration on how starting at an early stage of development with your trees will eventually determine the character and style of your trees years later.
