2024 Show Poster

By Tung X. Dao and Diana Nakano

This year’s show poster is inspired by the changing colors of fall. It celebrates the joy of autumn with the colors of a deciduous bunjin and the text, “Fall in love with bonsai.” The artwork is acrylic on canvas by Diana Nakano on canvas and the poster design is by Tung Dao.

Diana considers herself an artist and takes that into every part of her life. She has done everything from visual effects to face painting. For this painting, she wanted to bring some Jackson Pollock-like energy to the tree. Diana has always loved the motion in Pollock's work. She hopes that this piece will grab people's attention and inspire them to try bonsai.

The design is a big departure from previous posters and flyers that we have done in the past. It is inspired by Tung’s visit to an exhibit titled Queens of Their Discipline at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich featuring large format posters by women designers. Taking the design elements from these posters and implementing them in a smaller format presents a few challenges along the way. The end result is a striking poster that showcases the beauty of a fall show—something that makes our club’s show unique very year.

We hope you enjoy this poster. Please share it with your family, friends, and perhaps ask a local hangout spot to display it for us. Thank you! 🌳
